DER FILM ÜBER RENEE

Um das Geheimnis vom Erfolg des Buches Das Tagebuch einer Schizophrenen, das am Ursprung des gleichnamigen Films steht, zu ergründen, ist es hinterher einfach, sich auf das Medium Kino als Mittel des kommerziellen Wiederauflebens zu berufen. Einfach und ungerecht für das Werk von Frau Sechehaye, denn in der Tat schon 1951 hatte das Buch die europäischen Ländergrenzen überschritten und war das erste Mal in New York erschienen.

Wenn es schon nicht ausreicht, bei der Erklärung der großen öffentlichen Wirkung des Buches, vom Film auszugehen, so wäre es andererseits noch gefährlicher den kinematographischen Erfolg von Nelo Risi mit der Tatsache zu begründen, er käme von einem erfolgreichen Buch. Denn auf jeden Fall gab es einen reinen filmischen Erfolg. Wenn man sich nur die üppigen Lobeshymnen in Kritiken jener Zeit ansieht, verzichtet man endgültig darauf, das eine Werk für den Erfolg des anderen verantwortlich zu machen.
1968 ist der Film beim Festival in Venedig. Beim VII. internationalen Filmtreffen der Jugend in Cannes erhält er eine Besondere Benotung. Alles in allem sind es neun Preise, nimmt man alle Festivals, bei denen er zu sehen war, zusammen. Das Ergebnis sind zahlreiche Synchronisierungen im Ausland, zuerst in Frankreich, denn obwohl eine Französin (Ghislaine d'Orsay) Anna spielte, so war doch die ursprüngliche Filmproduktion eine italienische. Eine deutsche Synchronisation fand ich an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

If going from film to the book is not enough to elucidate the repercussion of the work on the public, still much more perilous would be the movement which would consist in rationalizing the cinematographic success of Nelo Risi by the fact that it was drawn from a work with success. And when one raises the expansion of praises which nourished the critical articles of the time, one definitively gives up wanting to explain the influence of the one by that of the other.

In Italien existiert natürlich eine Filmfassung und gewiss auch in Spanien, denn ich habe eine spanische Synchronisation in einer südamerikanischen kinematographischen Datenbank, genauer gesagt in Uruguay, entdeckt. Doch habe ich mir nicht zur Aufgabe gestellt, alle Orte, denen dieser Film ausgelierfert wurde, zu klassifizieren (ich habe weder in den USA noch in Japan gesucht). Das wäre ebenso schwierig für den Film wie auch für das Buch zu verwirklichen. Aber es gibt allemal die Gelegenheit daran zu denken oder wenigstens darauf zu hoffen, daß ich durch die Vermittlung des Labors und die Möglichkeit, das Formular auszufüllen, nach und nach eine Geographie im Weltmaßstab für die Wirkung des Falls von Renée haben werde. Wir haben Ghislaine d'Orsay erwähnt. Es ist unmöglich an dieser Stelle zu schließen, ohne an die schauspielerische Leistung von Margarita Lozano in der Rolle des Doktors Blanche zu erinnern wie ebenso an jene des italienischen Schauspielers Umberto Raho. Margarita Lozano hat übrigens ein erstaunliches Filmrepertoire, sie spielte in 35 Filmen, unter denen sich auch Manon des sources befindet.

We have already mentioned Ghislaine d'Orsay. Impossible to conclude without pointing out the presence of Margarita Lozano in the role of Dr. Blanche with the brilliant career which she carried out (participation in thirty-five films among which Manon des sources) and to underline as much that of the Italian actor Umberto Raho.
